Youth

The Youth Group is a vital ministry through which our youth are nurtured as disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. Any youth, members or non-members who are junior or senior high schools students are welcome to participate. Our regular meeting times are on Sundays at 6:00 PM to about 7:15 PM. Dress is informal and meetings usually end with a game of pick-up football. Exciting events and programs are planned each year.

There is a strong legacy of youth leadership at Latrobe Presbyterian Church with each generation building upon the strong foundation of youth who have gone before. One aspect to this legacy is the Youth Group Manifesto which expresses the group's sense of identity and mission. This manifesto reads as follows:

We are youth. We are Christians who take Jesus seriously. We talk about issues important to our lives and how they relate to our faith. We live our faith. We forgive and support each other.

What Are Our Goals?

We are working to:

  • get to know each other;
  • strengthen old friendships;
  • and make new ones;
  • grow in our faith;
  • live the Golden Rule;
  • do mission work at all levels;
  • have fun;
  • help others grow in their faith;
  • and learn to trust in God.

                                                                                   2007 Mission Trip

Youth programs include:

  • Youth Group (Grades 7-12)
  • Mission Trips
  • Youth in Faith Formation (Membership)
  • Sunday School
  • Kirk Ringers and Singers

The youth group has been involved in the following:

  • Bible studies topical discussions all night       Lock-Ins
  • Movie Nights
  • Canoe-camping car washes retreats
  • Helping with Faith and Action
  • Serving at Fall Harvest Luncheon

At the heart of these events is a spirit of Christian fellowship and awareness of our responsibility as disciples of Christ in a needy world. The youth group is a strong nurturing environment for making friends, dealing with struggles in growing up, developing communication and leadership skills, sharing adventures, problem solving, and learning from caring adults who are committed to the well-being of our youth.

Together with our Kirk Ringers and Singers, St. Andrew Ringers and Singers, our Youth in Faith Formation (YFF), the youth group has nurtured our youth to meaningful participation in the larger life of our church in such areas as ushering teams, video technicians, lectors in worship, youth deacons, and volunteers for special projects. We can be thankful and proud of the youth God has given us.
